Scouting for Food went well, although we did not have enough bags to distribute this year. We ended up with less food to collect, but we still gathered many hundreds of pounds of food. Thanks to all who participated.
We also had a great pile of things we collected for the soldiers in Iraq. Thank you to all who participated in these two service projects.
Other November 2004 Events
November will be a busy month for us, as we have not one, but TWO major service projects this month, a special visitor at our Pack Meeting, a great pack outing, and the Rain Gutter Regatta!
Mark your calendars for the first two Saturdays in November! We will be distributing bags to all the homes in Whittier on the first Saturday (November 6), and collecting those bags filled with food on the second Saturday (November 13). Scouting for Food collects two-thirds of all the food used by the area food banks for the entire year. It's fun, fast, and work to feel good doing. Meet at the picnic pavillion by the Whittier lake (in front of the elementary school) at 9:00 a.m. for both days.
There is a NEW 5-year Service Patch we will be earning starting this year. All boys who participate in either day of the Scouting for Food will receive the main patch.
Pick up Popcorn at Scouting for Food! Popcorn orders will be brought to the pavillion for both Scouting for Food days. Cubs can pick up their popcorn sales there.
We are currently also collecting materials for care packages for our soldiers overseas. If you can bring any of the following items, we can take them on either of the two Scouting for Food Saturdays. Janice Gilsdorf is collecting them. They will go out on a plane headed for Iraq on November 15th. Please do not wrap anything, because all items will have to be inspected before shipping. They specifically need the following items:
Dry Kool Aid Packets/Mix
Candy (no chocolate or anything that will melt)
Basic Toiletries
Lotions (body, face, hand)
Eyewash/eye drops
Sanitizer
Batteries
Reading material (magazines, books, newspapers, etc.)
