Scouting on the Ellipse 2004

Marshmallow Bonanza!

The 2004 Scouting on the Ellipse was a HUGE success. Thank you to all who participated, but most especially thank you to Dan Lopez, our Committee Chair, who came up with the idea for the marshmallow guns, planned the entire process, procured the materials, and oversaw the construction.

All the cubs who helped build the guns or who came to help distribute them can feel proud as well, even if you were not able to give out any.

Our event for the scouting on the Ellipse had two parts. First, we were to distribute neckerchief slides the boys had made, of PVC with a model of the Washington Monument and 2004 on them. Second, we were to assist the boys in building marshmallow guns.

The slides were popular, but when we started setting up to build the marshmallow guns at 12:25, the boys started gathering around so thickly that we could hardly get the boxes opened and set up without stepping on anyone. We figured we had enough guns to last all day, and they were gone in about twenty minutes!

It was the hit of the day, but it was a bit like being in a human tidal wave.
